SALINGER

Directed by Valentin Stasiuk

America of the 30th and 40th... Jazz, clubs, smoke, soft light, clink of glass and sound of beverages pouring into the glasses... Elegant people from the world of the American elite, charming girls and courteous waiters. Everywhere there is laughter and life in all its fullness... That's what the world of Jerome Salinger was like, he was an aspiring writer. a 20-year-old man.

Just after a decade or a little later he published a novel which rejected this life in the most categorical and uncompromising form as thoroughly imbued with "false". This masterpiece hasn't lost its relevance - the novel "The Catcher in the Rye". The leading character of the novel is Holden Caulfield - a teenager who refuses to accept an illusion of "normal" life which is being imposed on him.

The show "Salinger" is telling us a story of the journey which is made by the most mysterious American author of the 20th century: from a narcissistic dude, a regular at the bars and parties, to the rebellious philosopher who gave an immortal masterpiece to the world. All the action is filled with its unique atmosphere which is expressed through light, music, dance, plasticity of the actors and of course - through the texts of Salinger's amazing works, in which it is sometimes difficult to see the line between illusion and reality...

In the show we used texts from Salinger's works: "The Young Folks", "A Young Girl in 1941 with No Waist at All", "Once a Week Won't Kill You", "Last Day of the Last Furlough", "A Boy in France", "Soft-Boiled Sergeant", "A Perfect Day for Bananafish", "The Stranger", "Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut", "Pretty Mouth and Green My Eyes", "The Catcher in the Rye", text from Frederic Beigbeder's novel "Oona & Salinger" and biographical materials.
